Adventure Holidays

Most people who have just a couple of weeks off work want to chill on a beach somewhere. The most energetic thing they might contemplate is a dip in the hotel pool. There are some people however, who can't sit still for that long and would die of boredom after an hour of sunbathing. Adventure holidays offer the opportunity to try new activities; you wouldn't be able to do otherwise. These sorts of holiday package are also a chance to visit some exotic and remote locations.

Activity holidays can involve winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding, snow mobiling or dog sledding and in destinations such as rugged Alaska. Experienced mountaineers may want to try some ice climbing. These sorts of adventure holidays with specialized; extreme sports obviously require tuition for the beginner.

Climbing and trekking has grown very popular for the tourist who is fairly fit. Many companies organize trips to the Himalayas or South America. Nepal has got a successful tourism industry going and there are guides to lead you around the mountains. One of the sites that are attracting visitors in increasing numbers is the Machu Picchu site in Peru. This fortification of the Inca civilization is truly beautiful. It's advisable to get a medical check up when planning Adventure holidays at high altitude. The Amazon Forest hasn't even been fully explored yet and it would be an amazing experience.

African safaris are a great experience too. There are walking or driving tours and trips that require you to paddle up river in a canoe. Various countries accommodate this type of adventure holidays, such as Botswana, Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania. Asia is another favorite destination for the adventurous traveler. It's possible to ride an elephant in Thailand or climb the Great Wall of China. River trekking is very popular in Hong Kong and Taiwan. This involves climbing, trekking and sometimes swimming in the river. This experience allows access to scenery that wouldn't be visible from the highway.

A lot of people have a burning ambition to test themselves and adventure holidays can provide a real challenge, whether it's hot air ballooning over the Alps or white water rafting through the Pyrenees. Crossing the desert in a jeep may be your particular dream, which is what some people do in the Australian outback. Some people have come to grief however, but only because they weren't sufficiently prepared. If you want to have a go at ice diving or pot holing, time away from the office is the time to take the plunge...literally!
